1. These were the men who came to David at Ziklag when David was hiding from Saul son of Kish. They were among the warriors who helped David in battle.
1. Now these H428 are they that came H935 to H413 David H1732 to Ziklag H6860 , while he yet H5750 kept himself close H6113 because H4480 H6440 of Saul H7586 the son H1121 of Kish H7027 : and they H1992 were among the mighty men H1368 , helpers H5826 of the war H4421 .
2. They came with bows for weapons and could use either their right or left hands to shoot arrows or to sling rocks. They were Saul's relatives from the tribe of Benjamin.
2. They were armed H5401 with bows H7198 , and could use both the right hand H3231 and the left H8041 in hurling stones H68 and shooting arrows H2671 out of a bow H7198 , even of Saul's brethren H4480 H251 H7586 of Benjamin H4480 H1144 .
3. Ahiezer was their leader, and there was Joash. (Ahiezer and Joash were sons of Shemaah, who was from the town of Gibeah.) There were also Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth. There were Beracah and Jehu from the town of Anathoth.

4. And there was Ishmaiah from the town of Gibeon; he was one of the Thirty. In fact, he was the leader of the Thirty. There were Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, and Jozabad from Gederah.
4. And Ismaiah H3460 the Gibeonite H1393 , a mighty man H1368 among the thirty H7970 , and over H5921 the thirty H7970 ; and Jeremiah H3414 , and Jahaziel H3166 , and Johanan H3110 , and Josabad H3107 the Gederathite H1452 ,
5. There were Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, and Shemariah. There was Shephatiah from Haruph.
5. Eluzai H498 , and Jerimoth H3406 , and Bealiah H1183 , and Shemariah H8114 , and Shephatiah H8203 the Haruphite H2741 ,
6. There were Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam from the family group of Korah.

7. And there were Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham, from the town of Gedor.

8. Part of the people of Gad joined David at his stronghold in the desert. They were brave warriors trained for war and skilled with shields and spears. They were as fierce as lions and as fast as gazelles over the hills.

9. Ezer was the leader of Gad's army, and Obadiah was second in command. Eliab was third,

10. Mishmannah was fourth, Jeremiah was fifth,

13. Jeremiah was tenth, and Macbannai was eleventh in command.

14. They were the commanders of the army from Gad. The least of these leaders was in charge of a hundred soldiers, and the greatest was in charge of a thousand.
14. These H428 were of the sons H4480 H1121 of Gad H1410 , captains H7218 of the host H6635 : one H259 of the least H6996 was over a hundred H3967 , and the greatest H1419 over a thousand H505 .
15. They crossed the Jordan River and chased away the people living in the valleys, to the east and to the west. This happened in the first month of the year when the Jordan floods the valley.

17. David went out to meet them and said to them, "If you have come peacefully to help me, I welcome you. Join me. But if you have come to turn me over to my enemies, even though I have done nothing wrong, the God of our fathers will see this and punish you."

18. Then the Spirit entered Amasai, the leader of the Thirty, and he said: "We belong to you, David. We are with you, son of Jesse. Success, success to you. Success to those who help you, because your God helps you." So David welcomed these men and made them leaders of his army.
18. Then the spirit H7307 came upon H3847 H853 Amasai H6022 , who was chief H7218 of the captains H7991 , and he said , Thine are we , David H1732 , and on thy side H5973 , thou son H1121 of Jesse H3448 : peace H7965 , peace H7965 be unto thee , and peace H7965 be to thine helpers H5826 ; for H3588 thy God H430 helpeth H5826 thee . 19. Some of the men from Manasseh also joined David when he went with the Philistines to fight Saul. But David and his men did not really help the Philistines. After talking about it, the Philistine leaders decided to send David away. They said, "If David goes back to his master Saul, we will be killed."
19. 20. These are the men from Manasseh who joined David when he went to Ziklag: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai. Each of them was a leader of a thousand men from Manasseh.
20. 21. All these men of Manasseh were brave soldiers, and they helped David fight against groups of men who went around the country robbing people. These soldiers became commanders in David's army.
21. And they H1992 helped H5826 H5973 David H1732 against H5921 the band H1416 of the rovers : for H3588 they were all H3605 mighty men H1368 of valor H2428 , and were H1961 captains H8269 in the host H6635 .
22. Every day more men joined David, and his army became large, like the army of God.
22. For H3588 at that time H6256 day H3117 by day H3117 there came H935 to H5921 David H1732 to help H5826 him, until H5704 it was a great H1419 host H4264 , like the host H4264 of God H430 .
23. These are the numbers of the soldiers ready for battle who joined David at Hebron. They came to help turn the kingdom of Saul over to David, just as the Lord had said.

26. There were forty-six hundred men from Levi.

27. Jehoiada, a leader from Aaron's family, was in that group. There were thirty-seven hundred with him.
27. And Jehoiada H3111 was the leader H5057 of the Aaronites H175 , and with H5973 him were three H7969 thousand H505 and seven H7651 hundred H3967 ;
28. Zadok was also in that group. He was a strong young warrior, and with him came twenty-two leaders from his family.

29. There were three thousand men from Benjamin, who were Saul's relatives. Most of them had remained loyal to Saul's family until then.
29. And of H4480 the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 , the kindred H251 of Saul H7586 , three H7969 thousand H505 : for hitherto H5704 H2008 the greatest part H4768 of them had kept H8104 the ward H4931 of the house H1004 of Saul H7586 .
30. There were twenty thousand eight hundred men from Ephraim. They were brave warriors and were famous men in their own family groups.
30. And of H4480 the children H1121 of Ephraim H669 twenty H6242 thousand H505 and eight H8083 hundred H3967 , mighty men H1368 of valor H2428 , famous H376 H8034 throughout the house H1004 of their fathers H1 .
31. There were eighteen thousand men from West Manasseh. Each one was especially chosen to make David king.
31. And of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 eighteen H8083 H6240 thousand H505 , which H834 were expressed H5344 by name H8034 , to come H935 and make David king H4427 H853 H1732 .
32. There were two hundred leaders from Issachar. They knew what Israel should do, and they knew the right time to do it. Their relatives were with them and under their command.
32. 33. There were fifty thousand men from Zebulun. They were trained soldiers and knew how to use every kind of weapon of war. They followed David completely.
33. Of Zebulun H4480 H2074 , such as went forth H3318 to battle H6635 , expert H6186 in war H4421 , with all H3605 instruments H3627 of war H4421 , fifty H2572 thousand H505 , which could keep rank H5737 : they were not H3808 of double heart H3820 H3820 .
34. There were one thousand officers from Naphtali. They had thirty-seven thousand soldiers with them who carried shields and spears.
34. And of Naphtali H4480 H5321 a thousand H505 captains H8269 , and with H5973 them with shield H6793 and spear H2595 thirty H7970 and seven H7651 thousand H505 .
35. There were twenty-eight thousand six hundred men from Dan, who were ready for war.
35. And of H4480 the Danites H1839 expert H6186 in war H4421 twenty H6242 and eight H8083 thousand H505 and six H8337 hundred H3967 .
36. There were forty thousand trained soldiers from Asher, who were ready for war.
36. And of Asher H4480 H836 , such as went forth H3318 to battle H6635 , expert H6186 in war H4421 , forty H705 thousand H505 .
37. There were one hundred twenty thousand soldiers from the east side of the Jordan River from the people of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh. They had every kind of weapon.
37. And on the other side H4480 H5676 of Jordan H3383 , of H4480 the Reubenites H7206 , and the Gadites H1425 , and of the half H2677 tribe H7626 of Manasseh H4519 , with all manner H3605 of instruments H3627 of war H6635 for the battle H4421 , a hundred H3967 and twenty H6242 thousand H505 .
38. All these fighting men were ready to go to war. They came to Hebron fully agreed to make David king of all Israel. All the other Israelites also agreed to make David king.
38. All H3605 these H428 men H376 of war H4421 , that could keep H5737 rank H4634 , came H935 with a perfect H8003 heart H3824 to Hebron H2275 , to make David king H4427 H853 H1732 over H5921 all H3605 Israel H3478 : and all H3605 the rest H7611 also H1571 of Israel H3478 were of one H259 heart H3820 to make David king H4427 H853 H1732 .
39. They spent three days there with David, eating and drinking, because their relatives had prepared food for them.
39. And there H8033 they were H1961 with H5973 David H1732 three H7969 days H3117 , eating H398 and drinking H8354 : for H3588 their brethren H251 had prepared H3559 for them.
40. Also, their neighbors came from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen. They brought much flour, fig cakes, raisins, wine, oil, cows, and sheep, because the people of Israel were very happy.

Moreover H1571 they that were nigh H7138 H413 them, even unto H5704 Issachar H3485 and Zebulun H2074 and Naphtali H5321 , brought H935 bread H3899 on asses H2543 , and on camels H1581 , and on mules H6505 , and on oxen H1241 , and meat H3978 , meal H7058 , cakes of figs H1690 , and bunches of raisins H6778 , and wine H3196 , and oil H8081 , and oxen H1241 , and sheep H6629 abundantly H7230 : for H3588 there was joy H8057 in Israel H3478 .
