1. Then the man brought me back to the outer east gateway of the Temple area, but the gate was shut.
|
1. Then he brought me back H7725 H853 the way H1870 of the gate H8179 of the outward H2435 sanctuary H4720 which looketh H6437 toward the east H6921 ; and it H1931 was shut H5462 .
|
|
2. The Lord said to me, "This gate will stay shut; it will not be opened. No one may enter through it, because the Lord God of Israel has entered through it. So it must stay shut.
|
2. Then said H559 the LORD H3068 unto H413 me; This H2088 gate H8179 shall be H1961 shut H5462 , it shall not H3808 be opened H6605 , and no H3808 man H376 shall enter in H935 by it; because H3588 the LORD H3068 , the God H430 of Israel H3478 , hath entered in H935 by it , therefore it shall be H1961 shut H5462 .

3. Only the ruler himself may sit in the gateway to eat a meal in the presence of the Lord. He must enter through the porch of the gateway and go out the same way."

4. Then the man brought me through the outer north gate to the front of the Temple. As I looked, I saw the glory of the Lord filling the Temple of the Lord, and I bowed facedown on the ground.

5. The Lord said to me, "Human, pay attention. Use your eyes to see, and your ears to hear. See and hear everything I tell you about all the rules and teachings of the Temple of the Lord. Pay attention to the entrance to the Temple and to all the exits from the Temple area.

6. Then speak to those who refuse to obey. Say to the people of Israel, 'This is what the Lord God says: Stop doing all your acts that I hate, Israel!

7. You brought foreigners into my Holy Place who were not circumcised in the flesh and had not given themselves to serving me. You dishonored my Temple when you offered me food, fat, and blood. You broke my agreement by all the things you did that I hate.

7. In that ye have brought H935 into my sanctuary strangers H1121 H5236 , uncircumcised H6189 in heart H3820 , and uncircumcised H6189 in flesh H1320 , to be H1961 in my sanctuary H4720 , to pollute H2490 it, even H853 my house H1004 , when ye offer H7126 H853 my bread H3899 , the fat H2459 and the blood H1818 , and they have broken H6565 H853 my covenant H1285 because of H413 all H3605 your abominations H8441 .

8. You did not take care of my holy things yourselves but put foreigners in charge of my Temple.
|
8. And ye have not H3808 kept H8104 the charge H4931 of mine holy things H6944 : but ye have set H7760 keepers H8104 of my charge H4931 in my sanctuary H4720 for yourselves.

|
9. This is what the Lord God says: Foreigners who are not circumcised in flesh and who do not give themselves to serving me may not enter my Temple. Not even a foreigner living among the people of Israel may enter.
|
9. Thus H3541 saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 ; No H3808 H3605 stranger H1121 H5236 , uncircumcised H6189 in heart H3820 , nor uncircumcised H6189 in flesh H1320 , shall enter H935 into H413 my sanctuary H4720 , of any H3605 stranger H1121 H5236 that H834 is among H8432 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 .

10. "'But the Levites who stopped obeying me when Israel left me and who followed their idols must be punished for their sin.
|
10. And H3588 H518 the Levites H3881 that H834 are gone away far H7368 from H4480 H5921 me , when Israel H3478 went astray H8582 , which H834 went astray H8582 away from H4480 H5921 me after H310 their idols H1544 ; they shall even bear H5375 their iniquity H5771 .

11. These Levites are to be servants in my Holy Place. They may guard the gates of the Temple and serve in the Temple area. They may kill the animals for the burnt offering and the sacrifices for the people. They may stand before the people to serve them.
|
11. Yet they shall be H1961 ministers H8334 in my sanctuary H4720 , having charge H6486 at H413 the gates H8179 of the house H1004 , and ministering H8334 H853 to the house H1004 : they H1992 shall slay H7819 H853 the burnt offering H5930 and the sacrifice H2077 for the people H5971 , and they H1992 shall stand H5975 before H6440 them to minister H8334 unto them.

12. But these Levites helped the people worship their idols and caused the people of Israel to fall, so I make this promise: They will be punished for their sin, says the Lord God.
|
12. 13. They will not come near me to serve as priests, nor will they come near any of my holy things or the most holy offerings. But they will be made ashamed of the things they did that I hate.

And they shall not H3808 come near H5066 unto H413 me , to do the office of a priest H3547 unto me , nor to come near H5066 to H5921 any H3605 of my holy things H6944 , in H413 the most holy H6944 H6944 place : but they shall bear H5375 their shame H3639 , and their abominations H8441 which H834 they have committed H6213 .

14. I will put them in charge of taking care of the Temple area, all the work that must be done in it.

14. But I will make H5414 them keepers H8104 of the charge H4931 of the house H1004 , for all H3605 the service H5656 thereof , and for all H3605 that H834 shall be done H6213 therein.

15. "'But the priests who are Levites and descendants of Zadok took care of my Holy Place when Israel left me, so they may come near to serve me. They may stand in my presence to offer me the fat and blood of the animals they sacrifice, says the Lord God.
|
15. 16. They are the only ones who may enter my Holy Place. Only they may come near my table to serve me and take care of the things I gave them to do.

16. They H1992 shall enter H935 into H413 my sanctuary H4720 , and they H1992 shall come near H7126 to H413 my table H7979 , to minister H8334 unto me , and they shall keep H8104 H853 my charge H4931 .

17. "'When they enter the gates of the inner courtyard, they must wear linen robes. They must not wear wool to serve at the gates of the inner courtyard or in the Temple.
|
17. And it shall come to pass H1961 , that when they enter in H935 at H413 the gates H8179 of the inner H6442 court H2691 , they shall be clothed with H3847 linen H6593 garments H899 ; and no H3808 wool H6785 shall come H5927 upon H5921 them , while they minister H8334 in the gates H8179 of the inner H6442 court H2691 , and within H1004 .

18. They will wear linen turbans on their heads and linen underclothes. They will not wear anything that makes them perspire.
|
18. They shall have H1961 linen H6593 bonnets H6287 upon H5921 their heads H7218 , and shall have H1961 linen H6593 breeches H4370 upon H5921 their loins H4975 ; they shall not H3808 gird H2296 themselves with any thing that causeth sweat H3154 .

19. When they go out into the outer courtyard to the people, they must take off their serving clothes before they go. They must leave these clothes in the holy rooms and put on other clothes. Then they will not let their holy clothes hurt the people.

19. 20. "'They must not shave their heads or let their hair grow long but must keep the hair of their heads trimmed.
|
20. Neither H3808 shall they shave H1548 their heads H7218 , nor H3808 suffer their locks H6545 to grow long H7971 ; they shall only poll H3697 H3697 H853 their heads H7218 .

|
21. None of the priests may drink wine when they enter the inner courtyard.
|
21. Neither H3808 shall any H3605 priest H3548 drink H8354 wine H3196 , when they enter H935 into H413 the inner H6442 court H2691 .
|
|
22. The priests must not marry widows or divorced women. They may marry only virgins from the people of Israel or widows of priests.
|
22. Neither H3808 shall they take H3947 for their wives H802 a widow H490 , nor her that is put away H1644 : but H3588 H518 they shall take H3947 maidens H1330 of the seed H4480 H2233 of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 , or a widow H490 that H834 had H1961 a priest H4480 H3548 before.

23. They must teach my people the difference between what is holy and what is not holy. They must help my people know what is unclean and what is clean.
|
23. And they shall teach H3384 my people H5971 the difference between H996 the holy H6944 and profane H2455 , and cause them to discern H3045 between H996 the unclean H2931 and the clean H2889 .
|
|
24. "'In court they will act as judges. When they judge, they will follow my teachings. They must obey my laws and my rules at all my special feasts and keep my Sabbaths holy.
|
24. And in H5921 controversy H7379 they H1992 shall stand H5975 in judgment H8199 ; and they shall judge H8199 it according to my judgments H4941 : and they shall keep H8104 my laws H8451 and my statutes H2708 in all H3605 mine assemblies H4150 ; and they shall hallow H6942 my sabbaths H7676 .

25. "'They must not go near a dead person, making themselves unclean. But they are allowed to make themselves unclean if the dead person is their father, mother, son, daughter, brother, or a sister who has not married.
|
25. And they shall come H935 at H413 no H3808 dead H4191 person H120 to defile H2930 themselves: but H3588 H518 for father H1 , or for mother H517 , or for son H1121 , or for daughter H1323 , for brother H251 , or for sister H269 that H834 hath had H1961 no H3808 husband H376 , they may defile themselves H2930 .

26. After a priest has been made clean again, he must wait seven days.
|

27. Then he may go into the inner courtyard to serve in the Temple, but he must offer a sin offering for himself, says the Lord God.
|
27. And in the day H3117 that he goeth H935 into H413 the sanctuary H6944 , unto H413 the inner H6442 court H2691 , to minister H8334 in the sanctuary H6944 , he shall offer H7126 his sin offering H2403 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 .

28. "'These are the rules about the priests and their property: They will have me instead of property. You will not give them any land to own in Israel; I am what they will own.
|
28. And it shall be H1961 unto them for an inheritance H5159 : I H589 am their inheritance H5159 : and ye shall give H5414 them no H3808 possession H272 in Israel H3478 : I H589 am their possession H272 .

29. They will eat the grain offerings, sin offerings, and penalty offerings. Everything Israel gives to me will be theirs.
|
29. They H1992 shall eat H398 the meat offering H4503 , and the sin offering H2403 , and the trespass offering H817 ; and every H3605 dedicated thing H2764 in Israel H3478 shall be H1961 theirs.

|
30. The best fruits of all the first harvests and all the special gifts offered to me will belong to the priests. You will also give to the priests the first part of your grain that you grind and so bring a blessing on your family.
|

31. The priests must not eat any bird or animal that died a natural death or one that has been torn by wild animals.
|
31. The priests H3548 shall not H3808 eat H398 of any thing H3605 that is dead of itself H5038 , or torn H2966 , whether H4480 it be fowl H5775 or H4480 beast H929 .
