2 Chronicles 36:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The people of Judah chose Jehoahaz to be the new king in Jerusalem. Jehoahaz was Josiah's son.
2 He was 23 years old when he became king of Judah. He was king in Jerusalem for three months.
3 Then King Neco from Egypt made Jehoahaz a prisoner. Neco made the people of Judah pay 3?tons of silver and 75 pounds of gold for a fine.
4 Neco chose Jehoahaz's brother to be the new king of Judah and Jerusalem. Jehoahaz's brother's name was Eliakim. Then Neco gave Eliakim a new name. He named him Jehoiakim. But Neco took Jehoahaz to Egypt.
5 Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he became the new king of Judah. He was king in Jerusalem for eleven years. Jehoiakim didn't do what the Lord wanted him to do. He sinned against the Lord his God.
6 King Nebuchadnezzar from Babylon attacked Judah. He made Jehoiakim a prisoner and put bronze chains on him. Then Nebuchadnezzar took King Jehoiakim to Babylon.
7 Nebuchadnezzar took some of the things from the Lord's Temple. He carried them to Babylon and put them in his own house.
8 Everything else Jehoiakim did, the terrible sins he did, and everything he was guilty of doing, are written in the book, The History of the Kings of Israel and Judah. Jehoiakim's son Jehoiachin became the new king in his place.
9 Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he became king of Judah. He was king in Jerusalem for three months and ten days. He didn't do what the Lord wanted him to do. He sinned against the Lord.
10 In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar sent some servants to get Jehoiachin. They brought Jehoiachin and some valuable treasures from the Lord's Temple to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar chose Zedekiah to be the new king of Judah and Jerusalem. Zedekiah was one of Jehoiachin's relatives.
11 Zedekiah was 21 years old when he became king of Judah. He was king in Jerusalem for eleven years.
12 Zedekiah didn't do what the Lord wanted him to do. He sinned against the Lord. Jeremiah the prophet spoke messages from the Lord. But Zedekiah didn't humble himself and obey what Jeremiah said.
13 Zedekiah turned against King Nebuchadnezzar. In the past Nebuchadnezzar forced Zedekiah to make a promise to be faithful to him. Zedekiah used God's name and promised to be faithful to Nebuchadnezzar. But Zedekiah was stubborn and would not change his life. He refused to obey the Lord, the God of Israel.
14 Also, all the leaders of the priests and the leaders of the people of Judah sinned worse and became more unfaithful to the Lord. They followed the evil example of the other nations. They ruined the Temple that the Lord had made holy in Jerusalem.
15 The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent prophets again and again to warn his people. He did this because he felt sorry for them and for his Temple. He didn't want to destroy them or his Temple.
16 But they made fun of God's prophets and refused to listen to them. They hated God's messages. Finally, God could not hold his anger any longer. He became angry with his people and there was nothing that could be done to stop it.
17 So God brought the king of Babylon to attack the people of Judah and Jerusalem. The king of Babylon killed the young men even when they were in the Temple. He didn't have mercy on the people of Judah and Jerusalem. The king of Babylon killed young and old people. He killed men and women. He killed sick and healthy people. God permitted Nebuchadnezzar to punish the people of Judah and Jerusalem.
18 Nebuchadnezzar carried all the things in God's Temple away to Babylon. He took all the valuable things from the Temple, from the king, and from the king's officials.
19 Nebuchadnezzar and his army burned the Temple. They broke down Jerusalem's wall and burned all the houses that belonged to the king and his officials. They took or destroyed every valuable thing in Jerusalem.
20 Nebuchadnezzar took the people who were still alive back to Babylon and forced them to be slaves. They stayed in Babylon as slaves until the Persian kingdom defeated the kingdom of Babylon.
21 And so what the Lord told the people of Israel through the prophet Jeremiah really happened. He had said through Jeremiah: "This place will be an empty wasteland for 70 years. This will happen to make up for the Sabbath rests that the people had not kept."
22 During the first year that Cyrus was king of Persia, the Lord caused Cyrus to make a special announcement. He did this so that what the Lord promised through Jeremiah the prophet would really happen. Cyrus sent messengers to every place in his kingdom. They carried this message:
23 "This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: The Lord, the God of heaven, made me king over the whole earth. He gave me the responsibility of building a Temple for him in Jerusalem. Now, all of you who are his people are free to go to Jerusalem. And may the Lord your God be with you."
1 Then the people H5971 of the land H776 took H3947 H853 Jehoahaz H3059 the son H1121 of Josiah, H2977 and made him king H4427 in his father's stead H8478 H1 in Jerusalem. H3389
2 Jehoahaz H3059 was twenty H6242 and three H7969 years H8141 old H1121 when he began to reign, H4427 and he reigned H4427 three H7969 months H2320 in Jerusalem. H3389
3 And the king H4428 of Egypt H4714 put him down H5493 at Jerusalem, H3389 and condemned H6064 H853 the land H776 in a hundred H3967 talents H3603 of silver H3701 and a talent H3603 of gold. H2091
4 And the king H4428 of Egypt H4714 made H853 Eliakim H471 his brother H251 king H4427 over H5921 Judah H3063 and Jerusalem, H3389 and turned H5437 H853 his name H8034 to Jehoiakim. H3079 And Necho H5224 took H3947 Jehoahaz H3059 his brother, H251 and carried H935 him to Egypt. H4714
5 Jehoiakim H3079 was twenty H6242 and five H2568 years H8141 old H1121 when he began to reign, H4427 and he reigned H4427 eleven H259 H6240 years H8141 in Jerusalem: H3389 and he did H6213 that which was evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068 his God. H430
6 Against H5921 him came up H5927 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon, H894 and bound H631 him in fetters, H5178 to carry H1980 him to Babylon. H894
7 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 also carried H935 of the vessels H4480 H3627 of the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 to Babylon, H894 and put H5414 them in his temple H1964 at Babylon. H894
8 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 of Jehoiakim, H3079 and his abominations H8441 which H834 he did, H6213 and that which was found H4672 in H5921 him, behold, H2009 they are written H3789 in H5921 the book H5612 of the kings H4428 of Israel H3478 and Judah: H3063 and Jehoiachin H3078 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead. H8478
9 Jehoiachin H3078 was eight H8083 years H8141 old H1121 when he began to reign, H4427 and he reigned H4427 three H7969 months H2320 and ten H6235 days H3117 in Jerusalem: H3389 and he did H6213 that which was evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD. H3068
10 And when the year H8141 was expired, H8666 king H4428 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 sent, H7971 and brought H935 him to Babylon, H894 with H5973 the goodly H2532 vessels H3627 of the house H1004 of the LORD, H3068 and made H4427 H853 Zedekiah H6667 his brother H251 king over H5921 Judah H3063 and Jerusalem. H3389
11 Zedekiah H6667 was one H259 and twenty H6242 years H8141 old H1121 when he began to reign, H4427 and reigned H4427 eleven H259 H6240 years H8141 in Jerusalem. H3389
12 And he did H6213 that which was evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068 his God, H430 and humbled not himself H3665 H3808 before H4480 H6440 Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 speaking from the mouth H4480 H6310 of the LORD. H3068
13 And he also H1571 rebelled H4775 against king H4428 Nebuchadnezzar, H5019 who H834 had made him swear H7650 by God: H430 but he stiffened H7185 H853 his neck, H6203 and hardened H553 H853 his heart H3824 from turning H4480 H7725 unto H413 the LORD H3068 God H430 of Israel. H3478
14 Moreover H1571 all H3605 the chief H8269 of the priests, H3548 and the people, H5971 transgressed very much H7235 H4603 H4604 after all H3605 the abominations H8441 of the heathen; H1471 and polluted the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 which H834 he had hallowed H6942 in Jerusalem. H3389
15 And the LORD H3068 God H430 of their fathers H1 sent H7971 to H5921 them by H3027 his messengers, H4397 rising up quickly, H7925 and sending; H7971 because H3588 he had compassion H2550 on H5921 his people, H5971 and on H5921 his dwelling place: H4583
16 But they mocked H1961 H3931 the messengers H4397 of God, H430 and despised H959 his words, H1697 and misused H8591 his prophets, H5030 until H5704 the wrath H2534 of the LORD H3068 arose H5927 against his people, H5971 till H5704 there was no H369 remedy. H4832
17 Therefore he brought H5927 upon H5921 them H853 the king H4428 of the Chaldees, H3778 who slew H2026 their young men H970 with the sword H2719 in the house H1004 of their sanctuary, H4720 and had no compassion H2550 H3808 upon H5921 young man H970 or maiden, H1330 old man, H2205 or him that stooped for age: H3486 he gave H5414 them all H3605 into his hand. H3027
18 And all H3605 the vessels H3627 of the house H1004 of God, H430 great H1419 and small, H6996 and the treasures H214 of the house H1004 of the LORD, H3068 and the treasures H214 of the king, H4428 and of his princes; H8269 all H3605 these he brought H935 to Babylon. H894
19 And they burnt H8313 H853 the house H1004 of God, H430 and broke down H5422 H853 the wall H2346 of Jerusalem, H3389 and burnt H8313 all H3605 the palaces H759 thereof with fire, H784 and destroyed H7843 all H3605 the goodly H4261 vessels H3627 thereof.
20 And them that had escaped H7611 from H4480 the sword H2719 carried he away H1540 to H413 Babylon; H894 where they were H1961 servants H5650 to him and his sons H1121 until H5704 the reign H4427 of the kingdom H4438 of Persia: H6539
21 To fulfill H4390 the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 by the mouth H6310 of Jeremiah, H3414 until H5704 the land H776 had enjoyed H7521 H853 her sabbaths: H7676 for as long as H3605 H3117 she lay desolate H8074 she kept sabbath, H7673 to fulfill H4390 threescore and ten H7657 years. H8141
22 Now in the first H259 year H8141 of Cyrus H3566 king H4428 of Persia, H6539 that the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 spoken by the mouth H6310 of Jeremiah H3414 might be accomplished, H3615 the LORD H3068 stirred up H5782 H853 the spirit H7307 of Cyrus H3566 king H4428 of Persia, H6539 that he made a proclamation H5674 H6963 throughout all H3605 his kingdom, H4438 and put it also H1571 in writing, H4385 saying, H559
23 Thus H3541 saith H559 Cyrus H3566 king H4428 of Persia, H6539 All H3605 the kingdoms H4467 of the earth H776 hath the LORD H3068 God H430 of heaven H8064 given H5414 me ; and he H1931 hath charged H6485 H5921 me to build H1129 him a house H1004 in Jerusalem, H3389 which H834 is in Judah. H3063 Who H4310 is there among you of all H4480 H3605 his people H5971 ? The LORD H3068 his God H430 be with H5973 him , and let him go up. H5927
