1. The Lord told Moses, "You, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the older leaders of Israel must come up to me and worship me from a distance.
|
1. And he said H559 unto H413 Moses H4872 , Come up H5927 unto H413 the LORD H3068 , thou H859 , and Aaron H175 , Nadab H5070 , and Abihu H30 , and seventy H7657 of the elders H4480 H2205 of Israel H3478 ; and worship H7812 ye afar off H4480 H7350 .

2. Then Moses alone must come near me; the others must not come near. The rest of the people must not come up the mountain with Moses."

2. And Moses H4872 alone H905 shall come near H5066 H413 the LORD H3068 : but they H1992 shall not H3808 come nigh H5066 ; neither H3808 shall the people H5971 go up H5927 with H5973 him.

3. Moses told the people all the Lord's words and laws for living. Then all of the people answered out loud together, "We will do all the things the Lord has said."
|
3. And Moses H4872 came H935 and told H5608 the people H5971 H853 all H3605 the words H1697 of the LORD H3068 , and all H3605 the judgments H4941 : and all H3605 the people H5971 answered H6030 with one H259 voice H6963 , and said H559 , All H3605 the words H1697 which H834 the LORD H3068 hath said H1696 will we do H6213 .

4. So Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. And he got up early the next morning and built an altar near the bottom of the mountain. He set up twelve stones, one stone for each of the twelve tribes of Israel.

4. And Moses H4872 wrote H3789 H853 all H3605 the words H1697 of the LORD H3068 , and rose up early H7925 in the morning H1242 , and built H1129 an altar H4196 under H8478 the hill H2022 , and twelve H8147 H6240 pillars H4676 , according to the twelve H8147 H6240 tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 .

5. Then Moses sent young Israelite men to offer whole burnt offerings and to sacrifice young bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord.
|
5. And he sent H7971 H853 young men H5288 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , which offered H5927 burnt offerings H5930 , and sacrificed H2076 peace H8002 offerings H2077 of oxen H6499 unto the LORD H3068 .
|
|
6. Moses put half of the blood of these animals in bowls, and he sprinkled the other half of the blood on the altar.
|
6. And Moses H4872 took H3947 half H2677 of the blood H1818 , and put H7760 it in basins H101 ; and half H2677 of the blood H1818 he sprinkled H2236 on H5921 the altar H4196 .
|
|
7. Then he took the Book of the Agreement and read it so the people could hear him. And they said, "We will do everything that the Lord has said; we will obey."
|
7. And he took H3947 the book H5612 of the covenant H1285 , and read H7121 in the audience H241 of the people H5971 : and they said H559 , All H3605 that H834 the LORD H3068 hath said H1696 will we do H6213 , and be obedient H8085 .

8. Then Moses took the blood from the bowls and sprinkled it on the people, saying, "This is the blood that begins the Agreement, the Agreement which the Lord has made with you about all these words."
|
8. And Moses H4872 took H3947 H853 the blood H1818 , and sprinkled H2236 it on H5921 the people H5971 , and said H559 , Behold H2009 the blood H1818 of the covenant H1285 , which H834 the LORD H3068 hath made H3772 with H5973 you concerning H5921 all H3605 these H428 words H1697 .

9. Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the older leaders of Israel went up the mountain
|
9. Then went up H5927 Moses H4872 , and Aaron H175 , Nadab H5070 , and Abihu H30 , and seventy H7657 of the elders H4480 H2205 of Israel H3478 :

10. and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was a surface that looked as if it were paved with blue sapphire stones, and it was as clear as the sky!
|
10. And they saw H7200 H853 the God H430 of Israel H3478 : and there was under H8478 his feet H7272 as it were a paved H3840 work H4639 of a sapphire stone H5601 , and as it were the body H6106 of heaven H8064 in his clearness H2892 .

|
11. These leaders of the Israelites saw God, but God did not destroy them. Then they ate and drank together.
|
11. And upon H413 the nobles H678 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 he laid H7971 not H3808 his hand H3027 : also they saw H2372 H853 God H430 , and did eat H398 and drink H8354 .
|
|
12. The Lord said to Moses, "Come up the mountain to me. Wait there, and I will give you two stone tablets. On these are the teachings and the commands I have written to instruct the people."
|
12. And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto H413 Moses H4872 , Come up H5927 to H413 me into the mount H2022 , and be H1961 there H8033 : and I will give H5414 thee H853 tables H3871 of stone H68 , and a law H8451 , and commandments H4687 which H834 I have written H3789 ; that thou mayest teach H3384 them.

13. So Moses and his helper Joshua set out, and Moses went up to Sinai, the mountain of God.
|
13. And Moses H4872 rose up H6965 , and his minister H8334 Joshua H3091 : and Moses H4872 went up H5927 into H413 the mount H2022 of God H430 .

|
14. Moses said to the older leaders, "Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone who has a disagreement with others can take it to them."
|
14. And he said H559 unto H413 the elders H2205 , Tarry H3427 ye here H2088 for us, until H5704 H834 we come again H7725 unto H413 you: and, behold H2009 , Aaron H175 and Hur H2354 are with H5973 you : if any H4310 man H1167 have any matters H1697 to do , let him come H5066 unto H413 them.

15. When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it.
|
15. And Moses H4872 went up H5927 into H413 the mount H2022 , and a cloud H6051 covered H3680 H853 the mount H2022 .
|
|
16. The glory of the Lord came down on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from inside the cloud.
|
16. And the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 abode H7931 upon H5921 mount H2022 Sinai H5514 , and the cloud H6051 covered H3680 it six H8337 days H3117 : and the seventh H7637 day H3117 he called H7121 unto H413 Moses H4872 out of the midst H4480 H8432 of the cloud H6051 .

17. To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain.
|
17. And the sight H4758 of the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 was like devouring H398 fire H784 on the top H7218 of the mount H2022 in the eyes H5869 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 .

18. Then Moses went into the cloud and went higher up the mountain. He was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

18. And Moses H4872 went H935 into the midst H8432 of the cloud H6051 , and got him up H5927 into H413 the mount H2022 : and Moses H4872 was H1961 in the mount H2022 forty H705 days H3117 and forty H705 nights H3915 .
